The band has just wrapped a tour of Mexico, if I'm not mistaken there was a total of 19 dates. What can you tell us about your experience? Is this the first time Gerk embarks on a full scale tour of Mexico?
Gerk > Truly the experience in Mexico was unforgettable. Every date of the tour was just fantastic, the people, the bands, the cities. Everything was first rate and we were received with open arms, the support was there right from the start and Mexico has a very solid scene. No problems at all and all the tour dates went just great we have recently arrived back home and already want to be back in Mexico. It was our first time going to Mexico and it certainly won't be the last.
How did the idea develop to go on tour to Mexico?
Gerk > We had always had planned to do a Mexican tour we had always wanted to go there and more over because of the bands in the country. We had knowledge of so many great bands there and that was the big motivator to go there the cost of airfare was making it impossible to plan a trip to Mexico but luckily a promotion became available and took advantage of that. Booked the flights and planned the tour and realized that it was probably our only opportunity to go there and didn't hesitate for a second.
I was able to catch the last date of your tour in Tijuana and I must say the show was completely insane. Did many of your tour dates resemble that same energy that was displayed at this particular gig?
Gerk > Yes, luckily people would always respond in similar fashion everywhere we went and of course that in turn makes you give in even more in your performance. The energy spreads in the crowd and makes for a fun and solid show. Some places were more responsive than others but everywhere we went we were received in the same fashion.
Did you have time to sight see? Any archaeological sites, historic places, beaches, etc?
Gerk > We didn't have the time but did manage to do many things of interest to us. We had wanted to learn more about the Mexican culture and in Mexico City we managed to visit many museums and even made it out to see the pyramids. The same went in the city of Puebla, we were able to check out some beaches in Colima, Mazatlan and Tijuana, all very beautiful. We also had a little bit of time to check out many of the downtown areas in most of the cities if we had the opportunity we'd love to visit for at least 5 days in each city! LOL!
What were some of your favorite Mexican dishes that you were able to sample?
Gerk > All of them. Some of us can tolerate spicy foods more than others but we ate just about everything from burritos, tacos, quesadillas, cactus, just about everything. The cuisine is a bit more spicy than were used to LOL but very delicious. Some of us couldn't hold back the tears from the spices as we were eating! Ha!
Now that you're back at home, what comes next?
Gerk > In October we will embark on our first European tour and we are very anxious to get out there. We will be there from October through December so it'll be quite extensive we also have planned on releasing another split before we release our next LP and of course play live as much as possible.
What countries will you be touring in and will other bands join you on the tour?
Gerk > We will be on tour by ourselves and we hope that all the dates pan out soon. We will tour through Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, The Czech Republic, Poland and Luxembourg.
As far as the new split is concerned, are there any details that you can mention?
Gerk > We're not sure as of yet who the split will be done with we are friends with many great bands that have proposed a collaboration so in the next few days we should be able to decide in this matter. We would also like to release our next full length by early 2014 leaning more towards a sound that establish the roots and origin of the Gerk without losing our essence. Keep it very violent and retain our lyrical themes in the songs.
It's been great chatting with you guys, on behalf of Totalfuckingmayhem and Damned By Light we'd like to wish you all the best in your next tour and subsequent releases. Any last words?
Gerk > Thank you for the interview and we hope to return to Mexico very soon and hope that Europe gives us a warm welcome. If there's anything you'd like to know about the band or get in contact you can do so here: www.gerkcrust.com.ar. Cheers!!!
