Tainted Corrosive Mist is a quite prolific one-man-project, as it has participated on more than twenty releases within about a year of existence. The music style, as presented on this release, is somewhat dark ambient-reminiscent drone with a bit of noise included. The track is based on loops, with just a few twists and changes before it's quick fade-out end. In the beginning there's only the (phased?) bassy, humming and even gritty drone, but after less than two minutes the higher, almost noisy sound loops are added on top of it, and in the halfway there's one more high sound added quite on the top of the other sounds - otherwise the track remains faithful to it's loops, creating a somewhat hypnotic soundscape. One of the higher sounds is quite cold, metallic, and drony, whereas the other is more eerie and clear. The sound that comes in the halfway is something in between the two previously mentioned ones. The overall soundscape is cold, mechanical a even lo-fi when it comes to the bass-drone. Even though the loops progress in different paces and have varying volume levels when compared to one another - thus creating very varying and interesting sound combinations - the final result is too cold, distant, and even empty to be truly enjoyable. The high-pitched sounds are way too dominant over the one low sound, they just don't really fit together, and it even gets annoying that the high sounds are covering the lowest ones all the time after the beginning of the song. The cold, desolate, and a bit mechanical soundscape might be enough for this record to appeal to some individuals, but to me the record gave me it's all in a very short time. The soundscape is just too empty to be interesting, too varying and divided to be hypnotic, and the combining loops stopped being interesting just after a few spins. The used sounds just don't fit together. I'm still glad I heard this experimentation, as it's good for an occasional listen. That is all. |
