Three tracks of great crust from Hiatus. While not innovating, these tracks come out very enjoyable. Their riffs are very solid, drumming is point on. You cannot hear bass too well, which is a shame and the vocals might take some time to get used to from those new to crust. The production is somewhat flat, but it is actually a good thing as you can make all the riffs, drum hits and vocals out very clearly. While clear and flat, make no mistake, this is not some Dragonforceprotoolplastic production. There is no tempo variation to talk of, but in such a short time it doesn't bother at all.
While Embittered's production is not really too different from Hiatus side, a little worse and flatter, vocals mixed a bit too low, Embittered have more variation in their music. They have much stops and other tempo variations thrown into mix, which are very refreshing. The bass is heard only in times when the guitars aren't playing, which is shame. The vocal delivery is much better than with Hiatus.
The artwork on this album is superb in my opinion. Great looking b/w, with good covers from both bands, and the inside of the package is done in a cut up style, depicting various people, a special unit cop etc. Only complaint I have is that the covers doesn't really fit into the plastic case and they are somewhat hard to take out.
Everyone into crust should get this split. While nothing new, it is a very solid release, and will go fine with those new into crust alongside with Amebix, Antisect and Doom.
