Prurient is one-man noise band working with microphones and sometimes drums, and this is his Recycled tape. If you don't know what Recycled tape is, it is line of tapes churned out by RRRecords. All of them are dupped on old pop/rock cassettes, with same covers, with only modification being that they are plastered with duct-tape. On the cassette there is no other info expect title RECYCLED and the bands name. With this kind of method, even though they contain same music or "music" (depends how you want to call noise), the listening experience differs from tape to tape. The sound of the original recording might leak into the noise overdub, as an example.

Here Prurient performs with microphones and a drum-set. The drums give nice variety to the screeching mic feedback, while being completely devoid of rhythm or melody. The sound is extremely distorted and recorded on such high volume that it starts to crackle. Otherwise I find production to be very enjoyable. Not everything is audible but that is the way I enjoy my noise. Too polished sound take away the impact of noise.

On few occasions vocals are audible in the noise and they work in benefit of the chaotic nature of the recording. They are only on few parts though, and leaves their impact short lived. The atmosphere of the record is like being caught in the eye of a storm. When you listen to the cassette suddenly the track vanishes and all you can hear is sounds of cars and people walking. I don't know why this is here or what purpose it serves. While side A returns briefly to the noise, side B never does. On side B when the short track is over, its over. The noise is good but I hoped it would be longer. When it comes into sudden halt, you're left wanting for more but you don't get more.

If you are interested in primitive noise, I recommend this release to you. It is way too short but otherwise very enjoyable. This might not be the best introduction to world of noise, but probably works as good as any noise record. Otherwise, this is a good release to fans of Prurient and to those who are willing to spend four dollars on a cassette.
