Kuolema is a legendary finnish hardcore punk band. They died somewhere in eighties but later came back and with a pretty big profile, with tours in brazil and so on. Their music also goes pretty well with the metal crowd as well as the punk crowd, probably because they play a lot faster than much of the other hardcore that I know of.
The production is nice, everything is audible, but not too clear. The hardest to swallow part comes with Ile's vocals. They are constantly the same screaming, with absolutely no talent. And it fits the bands "fucked up on alcohol and drugs when we recorded this" image really well. Most people will find the vocals extremely awful though. While on first listen their music might just fly past your ears and nothing sticks out, with some listening you start to notice different tracks and there is some that you actually get hooked on, like Viinaa ja Aineita and Äpärä. Most of the songs aren't over minute long, which is very good thing with the music the band is playing.
The artwork of the seven inch isn't bad but it ain't too stunning either. One thing I miss is lyrics. They are not included and I enjoy knowing what the band sings about, especially in the case of punk bands. Also the labels on the vinyl is very off. There is no A and B side markers and it says the vinyl is 45 RPM but the A side plays on my player at 33 RPM while the B side is at the 45 RPM. Figure that out. One of the biggest problems with this EP is that it can be found ANYWHERE. Almost every compilation by the band, that I know of, includes this, it can be downloaded free from their website, it is on its own seven inch.
I recommend Kuolema to anyone with interest in extreme hardcore punk. It might be pretty hard to like some things, like Ile's vocals but with some patience the band grows onto you. But if you want the real Kuolema expirience, I recommend going to their gig.
