Here is a band that certainly isn't trying to re-invent the wheel. Surtr plays traditional doom metal, in most traditional way possible.
There isn't too much to say about the bands music. If you know your black sabbath, pentagram, saint vitus et cetera, you know what kind of music Surtr is offering. The production of the demo is one of it's high points. It's spacey, and everything is clearly audible. The guitar has nice and thick disorted sound to it.
There are two major flaws on this demo. First, both of their own tracks blend into each other. They sound both very similar. Also bands writing skills aren't best possible. Secondly, the vocalist is quite horrid. At first, at least. After a while I got used to them and didn't find them too annoying, but still they are pretty bad. Also the cover artwork is pretty cool, but using same picture for front and back cover doesn't work too well.
If you aren't looking for anything radically new and enjoy trad doom, check Surtr out. Currently they aren't the best but hopefully they continue churning out some doom.
