Endometrium Cuntplow is a one-man project which made it's first release in 2007, and has to this day made tens of different releases. Even though the project is mostly noise-based, or so I've understood, the artist isn't afraid to incorporate elements from different genres into his expression. This EP is a proof of this.
The song begins with some very distorted speaking in the back, which is soon accompanied some more or less screeching noises balancing between harsh noise and calmer droning ambience. Some low, fleshy and pulsating drones are in the back, pushing the track forward. In the beginning the soundscape reminds me of some old space research-documentaries, but this is soon to change. After three minutes an electric and mostly looped drum beat with a good ritualistic touch comes to push the track's energy levels up by a lot. The drums take the main focus, which gives the background sounds a lot of freedom to evolve - and it's exactly what they do. The screeching noises slowly turn into a mush with more mass and less edge, which makes the overall soundscape grow and grow in mass, power and appeal. The track starts to slow down, gradually drop out elements and become more minimal somewhere around nine minutes, ultimately leading the track to it's stylish fade-out end.
A stylish and well crafted display of the artist's skills and his vision, that's what could sum up this EP quite well. The sounds have been put together in an even surprising manner, and they present some intriquing and even daring combinations while still managing to create a working whole with an idea behind it. The track also evolves very naturally. One could say that the sounds have occasionally too much empty room around them and that opinion would be justified, but I think that for the most part it only helps bringing out the sounds' characters at their best.
For some people this EP, or more specifically it's noisy drones and the way it's put together, might be too crude, and it's diverse nature makes sure that you need to be in the right mood to listen through it. A release this short cannot last for too long in active listening, and the cover arts are quite a bore, but otherwise I found this EP very recommendable.
